:: Synopsis ::

On a rugged snow-capped peak, 15,000 feet above sea level, one wrong move - or one mis step-can make all the difference between survival and certain death in FINAL DESCENT.

When federal agents move in on a daring heist, the thieves make an airborne escape with 30 million dollars in stolen bonds. As the plane flies over the towering Rocky Mountains, its fuel runs out and the plane crashes onto the perilous terrain of Long's Peak, seconds after the criminals parachute to safety. In the chaos, the suitcase of bonds falls onto the peak's treacherous North Face. Viggo (Muldoon), the criminal mastermind leading the heist, is determined to find the treasure-at any cost. At the base of the ominous mountain, FBI Agent Stillman and a cadre of federal and local authorities begin to track Viggo and his men.

 Meanwhile, Beth Martin and her boyfriend, David, have agreed to guide a group of novice backpackers on a mountain climb. Beth is excited yet nervous; after all, this is her first climb since her sister died on the same mountain and, naturally, her father, Paul, does not want her to go. An experienced mountaineer, Paul has not climbed since that fateful accident. Beth's fears, however, escalate when Viggo and his men, pretending to be student climbers, reveal themselves and insist that Beth and David lead them to the mountain's deadly peak.

 Paul soon learns from the local sheriff that three criminals, headed by the notorious Viggo, are also on the mountain. Terrified for his daughter's safety, Paul casts aside his own fears as he follows the group. And, being an expert climber, it doesn't take him long to find Beth. Paul lures his daughter from the villains and the two join forces to save David and the rest of the hostages.

 With the mountain's severe elements taking their toll and the federal authorities closing in, there is no easy way to the top... and no one is prepared for the final descent.

Adventure thriller about a young woman who disregards the wishes of her father, and climbs the mountain that claimed her sister's life - unaware that there are dangers lurking in her team.

 This made-for-TV-movie sees a woman totally disregarding the wishes of her father (Jurgen Prochnow) to climb the mountain which claimed the life of her sister.

 What she doesn't know is that her climbing team is packed full of villains.

 Although he is playing one of the good guys in this film, the pock-marked Prochnow is much better known as an inveterate villain. MovieMax fans will recognise him from The Replacement Killers and Wing Commander. He has also starred in The Seventh Sign, Beverley Hills Cop 2, The English Patient and, most famously, Das Boot, the tense submarine thriller which first brought him to international notice. Prochnow returns to the high-tension action genre for Final Descent, this time 18,000 feet above rather than below sea level.
